Yesterday we sailed out to Orpheus Island to go snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. It was fun!

First, we got into our gear, then we hit the ocean.

The first time we went out on the reef, we followed fish collected and data on them. That was hard since the fish kept running away. The fish we had to collect data on was a parrot fish and the butterfly fish. I did ok with the snorkeling, but not too good. I took a couple brakes on the boat. Then we got out the ocean, showered the salt water off, changed clothes and an hour later went back in.

The second time we went, we took a boat in and got some data on coral. Getting data on coral was hard. We used measuring tape and four people pulled it out to meausure. It was hard. So it was an adventure. The next morning we left the island on the boat and head back to the aquarium.

  1. Tyanna,
What colors and kinds of coral did you like?
Swimming in the ocean is a lot of work, espcially when you are trying to keep up with fish, as they don't need a snorkel. :)
Thanks for sharing your experiences on this trip.

  2. Hi Tyanna,
Snorkeling and trying to collect information at the same time does sound a challenge!

The class has been following your adventures. Ms. Shannon and I have been giving time during Social Studies for everyone to have a look at the blogs. We all miss you, and definitely look forward to all of you returning. Be ready for many questions!
